of protection, and still continue
to enjoy many signal Benefits
in Common with the rest of His
Subjects) And desirous, on the other
Hand, as much as in them lay, to
avoid every possible Ground of
Contest or Dispute with his Grace.
They for the present consented to
provide for the several Exigencies
before mentioned at the Expence of
the Inhabitants at large, and for
that purpose did, on the 23 Day of
April last, with the Concurrence of
the rest of the Legislature within
the Island pass, an Act, for the
raising the Sum of Four Thousand
Pounds
