The withinmentioned is Computed for the Year
1760; but if M^r. Taubman, who acted as Dempster
till very lately, may be credited, He says that he
was ordered to audit the Accounts, and found the
Groſs Amount, of Duties &c.^a to be upwards of
Nine thousand Pounds, but this was an uncommon
Year, a very extraordinary Quantity of Wine was
Lodged there, in order to be ship't for Monti Christi
in S.^t Domingo; In 1756 I am told, the Neat
income was only £4,600., but it is very difficult to
get a perfect Account — I beg leave to observe, that
there is no officers put on board the Ships, on their
Arrival at the Island, and it is Natural to suppose,
that Quantities of Goods are landed there without
paying the Proprietor's Duties, and this I am told
is absolutely the Case. —
