The Humble petition of John Taubman of Castletown in s^d Isle —

Sheweth.

That your petit^r was early introduced into the House
of Keys, where he has had the honour of being a
member upwards of 12 years; In which publick character
he flatters himself his conduct has ever met with the
approbation of his Brethren the Keys, and that of the
publick in general —

That your petit^r hath also had the Honour of holding
severall places of Trust & credit under his Grace the Lord of
this Isle for these severall years past with the like satisfaction

That it having pleased God to afflict the late Deemster
John Taubman with a tedious illness, which occasioned delays
& other inconveniencys in the administration of Justice, your
petit^r was influenced and prevailed on to accept a Deputation
to officiate as Deemster during his uncle the s^d Deemsters
Indisposition —

That in virtue of said appointm^t your petit^r officiated
and served the publick in that character for near two years, as
he hopes with great integrity & Justice, And on the demise
of his said uncle, your petit^r had the satisfaction of finding
his conduct in the discharge of that important office so generally
approved of, that he was again desired to accept your Honours
appointment to accommodate, & serve the ~~em~~ necessity of the
publick, untill the Lord of the Isle had proceeded to nominate
a Deemster, or in those words, "untill his Graces pleasure be further known"
