This petition having been preferred & laid before me on the 26^th July 1775. & held under
consideration to this Day. It is Ordered that the s^d petition come on to be tryed &
determined by and before the Gentlemen of the House of Keys at their next Meet[obscured]
Business. Whereof all proper parties and persons to have due Notice and Servi[obscured]
at Castle Rushen the 3^d. Day of August 1775.

At a Meeting of the Keys in Castletown this 26^th. day of July 1[obscured]
We the Keys now legally assembled and having accordingly heard the partie[obscured]
certain Cause and Complaint wherein John Taubman Gentleman is petitioner and [obscured]
Lace Defen^t. which petition bears date the 26^th July 1775 and hereunto annexed &[obscured]
having perused the same and the Order of the Honorable Richard Dawson Esq^r [obscured]
Governor on the said petition bearing date the 3^d. Day of August 1775 directing the[obscured]
of the said petition to come on to be tryed and Determined before and by this House a[obscured]
next meeting on Business after the date of the said Order And also upon Reading th[obscured]
Journal of this House it appears that the said House hath by the Lieutenant Gover[obscured]
Authority been assembled and met on Business five several Times since the passin[obscured]
said Order of the 3^d. August 1775 aforesaid Exclusive of Their present Meeting at w[obscured]
latter Time the said petition & Complaint has been first laid before this House an[obscured]
appears to this House that the parties have appeared in the said Cause by N[obscured]
in Consequence of the said Order of the 3^d. August 1775 aforesaid and that h[obscured]
Excellency the Governor in Chief has returned to this Isle to the Exercise of his [obscured]
about Eight Days before our present Meeting and that the Office of Lieutenant [obscured]
was Suspended on such the arrival of his Excellency to this Isle And also up[obscured]
the several Exhibits & Records produced to this House for and on Behalf of each p[obscured]
in the said Cause and upon Consideration had thereof and of what was pleaded of[obscured]
alledged by the said parties respectively. We say and are of opinion that we have [obscured]
competent authority or proper Jurisdiction to proceed to the [obscured]
