Your Excellency having required to be
informed of the nature and extent of the insular Debt
and other public purposes stated in our address of
this day — We beg leave to State that this insular
Debt was contracted in opposing certain Measures
depending in the British Parliament and which
were conceived Injurious to the Rights and Interests
of the People of this Isle — That the Principal
and Interest amounts to the Sum of One Thousand
Nine hundred and four Pounds five Shillings
and Eight Pence British according to the Schedule
hereto annexed and that it was advanced by and
on the Credit of the House — That the other
public purposes alluded to are principally for
the making a proper and comfortable House
for the Members of the Keys to assemble in, for
the erecting proper Court Houses and Goals, for
the Maintenance of Felons ~~in the~~ and for such
other public purposes as the Legislature may
deem necessary —
