John Toffeld & others Deft

His Excellency the Governor having on
the W^m Petition ordered and appointed the Cause depending between these
parties to be heard before us at our present meeting on Country Business
and the same having come on it Course to be heard on Fryday last when
the Def^t John Toffeld by petition moved and prayed for further time
alledging he was not prepared to come to a hearing. Whereupon
this House respited the hearing till this day; when the said Def^t hath [?]
again moved by Petition for further time of Three Months, which
being thought unreasonable to Grant so long a delay. Yet
nevertheless upon Consideration of what was offered, this House thinks
proper to Adjourn the hearing of this Cause till the 11^th Day of July
next when the same is to be heard without further Delay, and all
partys concerned are to Attend and appear duly prepared without
further Notice.

At a meeting of the 24 Keys in Castletown
the 18^th Day of June 1768

The Petition of William Cain & Tho^s Taylor
May Tenants having in pursuance of his Excellency the Governors
Order come on to be heard before us this Day, Respecting the Manner and
Proceedings of a Jury of Inquiry & Traverse Jury Sworn at the suit
of the May Farm Tenants of the Parish of KK Malew. It Appears
to us that the said Petitioner William Cain did not take a Traverse
from the Answer of the Traverse Jury but Submitted to their Verdict
Wherefore the said William Cain is dismissed this House in
regard he did not enter a Traverse as aforesaid. But in respect
to the said Tho^s Taylors Cause and Complaint, it came properly
on to be heard and this House being Divided in Opinions on
the Matter in Question and not able to make a Majority on either
Side, It is therefore Resolved and agreed that this Cause as
far as concerns the said Tho^s Taylor be Suspended and put
off till our next meeting on Country Business, when it is
to be further Argued & Debated.
