Additional Remarks.

1^st. In the year 1778, old Taubman finding that
he had not influence enough in the House
of Keys to make them act under his authority,
or give in to all his measures right or wrong,
did his utmost endeavour to persuade the
people at large that the House of Keys were
not their legal representatives. He accordingly
.ly prevailed upon a M^r Harrison, a man of
considerable property, & firmly attached to
the Interest of the Family of Atholl, to come to
Castletown at the head of a party of respectable
Farmers & insist upon admittance into the
House of Keys (who were then Sitting) to hear
their debates, that they might know the Subjects
of their deliberations; & threatening on the
event of nonacmittance to pull down the
House about their ears. The then Chairman,
the late S^r Geo: Moore being almost frighte
.ned to death, & many others of the respectable
assembly having made signals of danger,
old Taubman, who then was endeavouring
to rise in consequence under the influence
of the Duke of Atholl's friends, prevailed
upon M^r Harrison & his friends to retire; &
seeing that this plan would not answer
