The Examination of Thomas Willson of
Sunderland in the County of Durham
Mariner taken the 30^th day of October 1764
Saith that on the 1^st day of July last, he sailed
from Whitehaven for the Isle of Man & arrived
there on the third. And saith [above line: that] upon his Arrival
he was informed by one William Reeves (who was
formerly a Merchant upon the Island, but is
now supported by Charity) and one Graves a
Sadler & who is Clerk of the Parish and many
other persons that the Week before there had been
landed out of ~~xx~~ Two Ships one belonging to the
Island and the other to Leverpoole One hundred twenty
two Thousand and fifty Gallons of Brandy and
at the time of this Examinants Arrival there was
then discharging out of a large Ship belonging to
the Island Sixty Six Thousand, Two hundred
and Forty Gallons of Brandy, which Ship came
from the Port of Cette in France, and which paid
a Duty of One penny p^r Gallon Manx money, to the
Duke of Athol, And saith, that he knows not
the Names of the above Vessels, or the Masters
who Commanded them, nor can he be more
particular with regard to any of the Facts mentioned
