My Lords,

Your Lordships first Commands of the 25 of July found me at my
Family Seat in Scotland, where I had an early Call, and had taken
up my residence almost from the time of the Decease of the late Duke
of Atholl, far removed from, and but little acquainted with the Transactions
of last Sefsion of Parliament, and much lefs so with the nature and
circumstances of the Noble Patrimony, which had so lately devolved
upon me, in right of my Duchefs the late Duke's Daughter — But
my Duty to the Publick, and respect to your Lordships, made me
embrace the earliest opportunity of giving your Lordships the little
Satisfaction in my power, by Laying before you such Information
as I had received of the Steps formerly taken, in consequence of the
Act 12. Geo: 1, together with the Ideas of the late Duke upon this
head, and the Correspondence of my own with his.

Your Lordships have again honoured me with your Commands of
the 12 of Sep^r, desiring me to transmit you,

"An Exact and Accurate Rental of the Revenue of the Isle,
" Specifying the several Kinds of which it consists, and the annual amount
" of each; and with respect to any Customs or Impost Duties, which I
" receive, the several Species of Goods on which they are Levied, the
" rates at which they are paid, and the annual amount of the Dutys arising
" from each Species respectively"

And this Your Lordships are pleased to exprefs your desire to obtain
in the most full and accurate manner.
