without fear and without restraint. And I do expect that
both the Clergy & laity will Religiously observe these Orders
since the purity and uniformity of their Religion, the prospe
rity of their Country, and the Welfare of their
posterity so much depend upon it.
And that this concern of mine for the discountenancing
of Vice may be known to all I do hereby order that this letter
be read in all Churches of the Island at such times as my
councell shall appoint and that the Original remain
with you as an Instance of my settled purpose of encour
aging those only who shall distinguish themselves by an
honest and sober behaviour in opposition to all vice &
Impiety Whatsoever. Given under my hand at London
the first of September

We do hereby require that this our Honourable
Lords pleasure be publickly read by the Severall
Ministers in the respective parish Churches of
this Isle both in English & Manks on Sunday
the 22^d Day of July next that all Persons may
take due notice thereof and conforme them-
selves accordingly.
