Admiſsion of M^r Roper and to encourage Gentlemen of
the superior description of Barristers to settle and practice
in The Isle of Man But entertaining Doubts how far
M^r Roper's relinquishment of his profeſsion of a Barrister
and betaking himself to another Line which subjected him
to the consequences of being made liable to The Bankrupt
Laws and rendered it neceſsary for him to extricate himself
through the Operation of an Act of Bankruptcy did not operate
as a disqualification His Grace who is desirous to avoid &=
making any precedent under such Circumstances without
good Advice hesitated and took the matter into consideration.
It further occurred to His Grace That he ought to
require some communication or recommendation from The Court
wherein M^r Roper practiced and That the Certificate of his
conformity as a Bankrupt signed by The Commiſsioners and
allowed by The Lord Chancellor ought to have accompanied
his Application.—
Upon this Statement of The Case Therefore your
Opinion is desired.—
With respect to M^r Roper's Application to be
admitted to practice as a Barrister in The Isle
of Man and how far The Duke of Atholl
ought to comply with such Application in his
uninformed state without the adduction of
satisfactory Evidence or Testimonials and of what
ought in your Estimation and Opinion the same
to consist upon this occasion under all the
Circumstances of The Case.—
