" Granted and paſsed over by way of Security and by these presents Do give grant and paſs
" over by way of Security unto him the said John Duke of Atholl all and singular that the
" Sum of Nine thousand three hundred and forty three pounds eighteen Shillings or
" thereabouts vested in the three per Cent consolidated Annuities in the name of M^r James
" Spedding of Whitehaven in the County of Cumberland and Kingdom of Great Britain and
" Joseph Priestly late of Dumfries in the Kingdom of North Britain Gentleman and the
" right and property of us the said Peter John Heywood and James Heywood my Son aforesed
" To have and to hold the said hereby Mortgaged premises unto him the said John
" Duke of Atholl his Heirs Exors Admors and Aſsigns until payment of the said a
" Principal Sum of two thousand pounds with the Interest thereof and all Costs and Charges
" shall be fully discharged paid off and satisfied and for the true and faithfull performance
" of these presents we the said Peter John Heywood and James Heywood Do hereby bind and
" oblige ourselves and our Heirs Exors and Admors jointly and severally in and under the
" penalty of four thousand pounds to be levied and paid according to Law In Witneſs whereof

Aſsignment will have upon the said Bank Annuities
or the Dividends to accrue upon them and what steps must
be taken for the Recovery of the £2000 and Interest and
advise his Grace fully on this Case —

I am not sure (from the general ~~Re~~stitution [above line: of the Customs] ~~I~~ have) of the meaning
of the words "Corpession" as Heirship or Inheritance apply to the
Laws & Customs of the Isle but taking it for granted that they mean
the same thing as a fee simple, & that under the Settlement of
May 1780, the remainder in fee stood limited to the eldest son
of the Marriage, the consequence would be that upon his death
without issue that remainder ~~in fee~~ would descend to his next Brother
