WHEREAS by an Act made in the laſt Seſſion of Parliament, intituled, " An Act for carrying into Execu- " tion a Contract made, purſuant " to the Act of Parliament of the Twelfth of " His late Majeſty King George the Firſt, be- " tween the Commiſſioners of His Majeſty's " Treaſury and the Duke and Dutcheſs of " Atholl, the Proprietors of the Iſle of Man, " and their Truſtees, for the Purchaſe of the " ſaid Iſland and its Dependencies, under certain " Exceptions therein particularly mentioned," it is enacted, That from and immediately after the Payment into the Bank of England, by Us, Our Heirs, or Succeſſors, in the Names of John Duke of Atholl, and Charlotte Dutcheſs of Atholl his Wife, Baroneſs Strange, Sir Charles Frederick, Knight of the moſt Honourable Or- der of the Bath, and Edmund Hoſkins, Eſquire, or the Survivors or Survivor of them, of the Sum of Seventy Thouſand Pounds, on or before the Firſt Day of June, in the Year of Our Lord One thouſand ſeven hundred and ſixty- five, the Iſland, Caſtle, Pele, and Lordſhip of Man, and all the Iſlands and Lordſhips to the ſaid Iſland of Man appertaining, together with the Royalties, Regalities, Franchiſes, Liberties, and Sea-Ports to the ſame belonging, and all other the Hereditaments, and Premiſes, therein particularly deſcribed and mentioned (except as therein is excepted) ſhould be, and they were thereby unalienably veſted in Us, Our Heirs, and Succeſſors, freed and diſcharged, and ab- ſolutely acquitted, exempted, and indemnified, of, from, and againſt, all Eſtates, Uſes, Truſts, Entails, Reverſions, Remainders, Limitations, Charges, Incumbrances, Titles, Claims, and Demands whatſoever : And whereas We have cauſed to be paid into the ſaid Bank of England, in the Names of the ſaid Duke and Dutcheſs of Atholl, Sir Charles Frede- rick, and Edmund Hoſkins, the ſaid Sum of Seventy Thouſand Pounds, on the Seven- teenth Day of May laſt paſt, whereby, and by virtue of the ſaid Act of Parliament, the im- mediate Care of Our ſaid Iſland, and of Our loving Subjects therein, is now devolved upon Us : And whereas by Our Commiſſion, bear- ing even Date with theſe Preſents, We have conſtituted and appointed Our truſty and well- beloved John Wood, Eſquire, to be Our Governor in Chief, and Captain General, in and Over Our ſaid Iſland, Pele, and Lordſhip of Man, and all the Iſlands, Forts, Caſtles, and Lord- ſhips, thereunto appertaining : We, being deſirous to provide for the due and regular Adminiſtra- tion of Juſtice within Our ſaid Iſland of Man, and the Territories and Dependencies to the ſame appertaining, and to ſecure the Peace and

good Order thereof, and to promote, to the utmoſt of Our Power, the Happineſs and Proſ- perity of all Our loving Subjects reſiding with- in the ſame, have thought fit, with the Advice of Our Privy Council, to iſſue this Our Royal Proclamation, hereby ſtrictly commanding and requiring all Manner of Perſons whatſo- ever, to pay due Regard and Obedience to the ſaid Act of Parliament, and Our ſaid Royal Commiſſion, and chearfully and dutifully to ſubmit themſelves to Our ſaid Governor to [?] appointed by Us as aforeſaid, and to be aiding, and aſſiſting to him, and all other Our Magi- ſtrates and Officers, in the lawful Diſcharge of the Authorities to them committed and in- truſted, as they will anſwer the contrary at their Perils. And Our Will and Pleaſure is, That all Officers and Miniſters who now are, or at the Time of the Publication of this Our Royal Proclamation within Our Iſland of Man, ſhall be concerned in the Adminiſtration of Juſtice within Our Iſland aforeſaid, and par- ticularly Our Clerk of the Rolls, Attorney- General, and Two Deemſters, and all other Perſons whatſoever, who, at the Times afore- ſaid, are or ſhall be duly and lawfully poſ- ſeſſed of, or inveſted in, any Civil Employ- m^nt (except only the Officers appointed and employed by the late Proprietors of Our Iſland of Men, in collecting and receiving the Revenues ariſing within Our ſaid Iſland, and the Territories and Dependencies of the ſame) ſhall from henceforth hold their reſpective Offices, Places, and Employments of, from, and under, Us, Our Heirs, and Succeſſors, and ſhall con- tinue in the Exerciſe thereof, and ſhall enjoy the ſame, with ſuch Salaries, Fees, Profits, and Emoluments, as have hitherto belonged to the ſame reſpectively, until Our Royal Pleaſure in this Behalf ſhall be further known : And We do ſtrictly command and enjoin all and every the ſaid Perſons, of whatſoever Rank, Condition, or Degree, to proceed in the Execution of their ſaid reſpective Offices, and to perform all the Duties thereunto belonging, upon Pain of Our higheſt Diſpleaſure : And We do further charge and command all and every Our ſaid Magi- ſtrates, Officers, and Miniſters, and all Perſons whatſoever, who ſhall hold any Office, Place, or Employment, Eccleſiaſtical, Civil, or Mili- tary, within Our ſaid Iſland of Man, and the Territories and Dependencies of the ſame ; that within the Space of One Calendar Month from and after the Publication of this Our Proclama- tion within Our ſaid Iſland, they do take the Oaths appointed to be taken by an Act of Par- liament paſſed in the Firſt Year of the Reign of His late Majeſty King George the Firſt, intitul- ed, " An Act for the further Security of His " Majeſty's Perſon and Government, and the " Succeſſion of the Crown in the Heirs of the " late Princeſs Sophia, being Proteſtants ; and " for extinguiſhing the Hopes of the pretended " Prince of Wales, and his open and ſecret " Abetters;" and alſo make and ſubſcribe the Declaration
